Aliens

Humans

The human governments of Earth never managed to unify. Too much cultural friction prevented that. Space exploration was instead driven by private companies. As resources started to dwindle, they looked to the stars, finding plenty of free real estate. Driven by profit rather than politics, they managed what the human nations could not and began settling the stars.

Competition was fierce, and space was free from any Earth regulations. This led to a hostile atmosphere between the dozens of companies. As tensions escalated and the cooperations used more and more underhanded tactics, the Megacorp Wars started in the year 2418. It lasted 6 years. As many cooperations were violently assimilated, only five remained: Armagon, Conrad Manifacturing, Horanibo, Inomex, and Tincing Media. They signed the Five Earths treaty which designated which parts of the galaxy could be colonized by whom. It also marked Earth as neutral territory so that no Megacorp could claim it.

The Five Megacooparetions saw a golden opportunity when first contact was established. They saw potential new customers in those aliens, as well as cheap and skilled labor. They strive to maintain positive trading relationships and open migration treaties with all aliens who do not openly show hostility or practice strong isolationism. This makes human space the most tolerable and mixed society in the entire galaxy. The Megacorps do not care what you look like or what you believe in. As long as you help them make a profit, you are welcome.

Brindi

Biology

Small and insect-like (have four limbs). Round-bodies. Dunkleosteus-like jaws that are built into their exoskeleton.

They mature and learn at surprising rates but only live for 49 years on average.

Most Brindi are sterile females, given birth by only a few hundred Brindi queens that stay in Brindi space. The queens are ranked based on age and never stop growing. The oldest queen, Zukazuna, is 391 years old and 28 meters long. Queens generally cannot move on their own and are served by other Brindi.

Every 9 years, male Brindi and new queens are born and shared between different colonies. The males live less than two years and die after mating.

Culture

The Queens are the leaders and make most political decisions. Brindi are instinctively loyal to their queens and serve them by traveling the galaxy, gathering resources, credits, and knowledge. This makes them naturally curious and drives them to explore. You can often find them in frontier space.

Brindi have less of a desire for luxury and can live in surprising squalor without complaint, eating food that most aliens would not even touch. Some take advantage of that takeing low paying jobs and still being able to have credits left over to send back home.

Occasionally, Brindi break free of their instinctual loyalty and become independent.

Systems and Faction

The Brindi only control a few dozen systems directly (simply called the Brindi Systems). Instead of traditional means of building power through territory, they siphon resources from all over the galaxy with the Brindi they send out. This makes them surprisingly rich compared to their size.

Their homeplanet is Zukizi, fewer oceans, hardy vegetation.

Military

The Brindi rely on their warrior caste for defense of their territory. These special Brindi are far larger and have an exoskeleton so hard that it can keep up with most advanced armor. Warrior Brindi Biology is so extreme that they are easily the alirns that are the physically strongest and best-equipped for war in the galaxy. This comes at a steep cost, reducing their life spans to less than 30 years.

Warrior Brindi have a place of honor in their society. There are always a few million active warriors, but in times of war, they can be mass-produced at a frightening rate. They can be ready for war within a few months after birth.

The trauma of the war led them to overcompensate. They have given up on their old isolationist and stubborn ways and instead try to integrate as well as they can in the places that took them in.
